How it all started...
Hi there! My name is Dominique Mohler and I started the Rethinking How You Money 101 blog and podcast during my time at Seattle University in September 2020 to address the lack of financial education in the American schooling system.
For most Americans, money can be a taboo topic. Most schools do not teach financial literacy and many families do not discuss financial matters with their children.
Addressing the Lack of Financial Education
Finances will follow our students for the rest of their lives, yet it is rarely taught at our schools and seen as a priority subject. In an ideal world, all of our schools would be provided with a required course that could teach our youth of the finances they must prepare for as adults.
How do we expect our youth to enter the workforce as mature adults when they lack basic financial knowledge? Our world revolves around money. A child can not even purchase a meal without the object, yet our schools do not think that financial education should be a requirement?
I always wished that I had a course in school that discussed the costs of renting, paying for school, your health and car insurance,
loans, taxes, and other expenses that come
with being financially independent.
Rethinking How You Money 101 serves to bridge the education gap created in our school systems and aid young adults who are seeking to become financially illiterate.
